A nanfocused IR light on Stradivari Violins
The constructive peculiarities of the Cremonese violin makers at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, exemplified by the excellence of Antonio Strivari, have bequeathed us the opportunity to admire true masterpieces and listen to their extraordinary sound throughout the ages. It is well-known that both aesthetic and acoustic features are related to all phases of the manufacturing process, with the finishing treatments playing a crucial role. However, some constructive secrets are still well-guarded. Nanoresolved IR s-SNOM contributed new and robust evidence to the long-debated question about the use of proteinaceous materials by Stradivari. |

Surface Enhanced IR Reflection Absorption Microscopy for protein structural analysis
Surface-Enhanced Infrared Absorption (SEIRA) in plasmonic internal reflection (PIR) geometry has been exploted as an informative tool for protein binding studies.
Its performances have been proven for assesing the very subtle secondary structure modifications associated with the binding of Lapatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), to epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a well-known driver of tumorigenesis in pathological settings such as lung, breast and brain cancers, as well as for the study of the dimerization of the SARS CoV-2 main protease, Mpro.

Cryo-preserved platelets quality over time after thawing
Cryopreservation and time after thawing affects morpho-functional characteristics of platelets, posing concerns on their use for the purpose they are routinely requested in clinical context. Lipid peroxida-tion and protein misfolding seen by FTIR microscopy account for the alteration of membrane integrity and stiffness, which occur irreversibly 3 h after thawing. |
