Thermo Avantage Register Licence

AvantageLicence

This licence request usually appears after a Windows OS update. If this is the case, select 'Standard Acquisition Licence', enter the licence number, click 'Register', then 'OK'. If Avantage software does not start, restart it following the above troubleshooting instructions (Avantage is not responding). The licence numbers are on the installation CD (Avantage Software, in the cabinet with PC accessories and CDs).

Filament Current Limit

When the Fil. Curr. Limit value is 6 it must be set to 4.3 A for all modes (Al 15W, Al 100W, Al 200W, Al 300W, Mg 15W, Mg 100W, Mg 200W, Mg 300W).Otherwise, the filament's lifetime will decrease rapidly.

1. Click the Details button in the Instrument Tab
InstrumentTab

GunDiagnostics
  1. Select mode (e.g. Al 15W), then click the Recall button next to the Mode selection. Change Fil. Curr. Limit to 4.3 A.
  2. Click the 'Save' button. 'Save mode as' window will appear. Change the mode name. Keep the beginning (e.g. 'Al 15W'), but delete '[Test]' (including the space between '15W' and '[Test]'). Save. This will overwrite the default current limit of 6.0 A with the value of 4.3 A.
  3. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all modes (Al 15W, Al 100W, Al 200W, Al 300W, Mg 15W, Mg 100W, Mg 200W, Mg 300W). Ignor the MgDegas, AlDegas, DegasAl, DegasMg modes.

Complete Loss of XPS Signal

Check the water flow interlock. If it's off, refer to the "Low Water Flow" section.

Low water flow

Check the water pressure. If it's between 4 and 5 bars, clean the filter.

Filter cleaning
WaterFilter

  1. Shutdown the X-ray gun, wait for 10 minutes, then close the water source and drain valves.
  2. Locate the filter, note its up-down orientation and the positions of the Swagelok nuts (to avoid overtightening).
  3. Dismount the filter and clean it in an ultrosonic bath (using distilled water) for 20 minutes.
  4. Flush the filter: first in the reversed water flow direction, then in the correct water direction.
  5. Reinstall the filter in the correct orientation, ensuring not to overtighten the Swagelok nuts.
  6. Open water circuit.
  7. Check for water leaks.
  8. Monitor the water flow for about 30 minutes. If the water flow decreases notably, repeat the cleaning procedure.

HV Trip

When the HV Trip LED ligths up upon switching on the power supply, switch it off, wait for at least 10s, and then try again.
