Elettra Fellows 2011

Hans Chang

ChangDr. Hans Chang is a distinguished physicist who was greatly contributed in several high levelfunctions to the construction of the European Research Area. Particular contributions have been in the field of the development of world-level research infrastructures as Director of the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM) organization, in the Netherlands. Even more important are his contributions to policy making at the EU level, with the launch of the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures as inaugural chairman, of the Global Science Forum of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as vice-chairman and of the European Union of Physics Research Organizations as inaugural chairman. The European perspective of SincrotroneTrieste have been greatly improved thanks to the developments driven by Dr. Hans Chang and we look forward to his continuing this drive

Charles S. Fadley

FadleyProf. Charles S. Fadleyis a distinguished solid statephysicist and materials scientist who has given fundamental contributions to the development of photoelectron spectroscopy, diffraction and holography worldwide. As a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of SincrotroneTrieste for many years he has provided invaluable advice on scientific developments and strategies in areas as diverse as solid state, surface and interface physics, magnetic materials and nanostructures, spectroscopy and diffraction techniques, greatly contributing to the success of our organization.

Dietrich Menzel

MenzelProf. Dietrich Menzel is a distinguished chemical physicist who has given fundamental contributions to the understanding of the bonding of atoms and molecules to surfaces and to the development of surface science techniques worldwide. As a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of SincrotroneTrieste for many years he has provided invaluable advice on scientific developments and strategies in areas as diverse as surface science, catalysis, nanoscience and ultrafast phenomena at surfaces, greatly contributing to the success of our organization.
