Following the success of the first Italian - Australian Workshop on Future Directions in Spectroscopy and Imaging with Synchrotron Radiation, held in Lorne, (Victoria, Australia) in February 2003, we are holding a second meeting in Trieste, Italy. The first meeting stimulated a significant number of proposals for experiments by Australian scientists at the Elettra synchrotron light source in Trieste. The main fields of interest were spectroscopy and medical imaging, and these have in turn led to the initiation of several collaborations.
The goal of the meeting is to consider scientific objectives in the two scientific fields of imaging and spectroscopy, review progress, and discuss the current status of beamline design for the Australian synchrotron. Emphasis is on soft x-ray and medical imaging, and emerging spectroscopic techniques or novel and sophisticated applications of existing methods. A visit to Elettra will be included in the program.
